A Fenland care home is celebrating after its most successful summer fete to date raised a bumper £1,200.

The annual event at Burman House in Terrington St John raised double the amount for its resident’s entertainment fund compared to last year.

Care assistant Angie Bligh, who organised Saturday’s fete with the help of six volunteers, said: “It means we will be able to provide entertainment every month for the year. The residents are over the moon.”

More than 200 people attended the event, which included displays from Ali’s Street Dance group and music from The Fenland Fiddlers.

There was also a raffle, a huge variety of traditional children’s games and Stuart Blyth saved the day by providing a bouncy castle after the home’s previous supplier let them down at the last minute.

Youngsters were also delighted by a visit from Disney’s Frozen Queen Elsa, also known as Corale Payne, and care home residents Stephen Stanforth and Connie Elsey judged a fancy dress competition.

“The day was absolutely brilliant,” added Mrs Bligh.
