A GROUP of volunteers are to continue running an Alzheimer’s group in Chatteris that was due to close on Friday.
Due to cuts in funding, the Alzheimer’s Society had decided to shut down the weekly support group that meets in Salem Court.
However, now the group will stay open and will be run by a dedicated group of volunteers.
Gill Lintott, Locality Manager for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Alzheimer’s, said: “We are delighted to hear that local volunteers are offering their time and resources to operate a club similar to the Friday group.
“Alzheimer’s Society is striving to encourage a dementia supportive community as we are unable to fight dementia alone.
“I wish the volunteers every success and although this will be run independently, I will do my best to support them to identify the training, systems and structures they will need to run an effective service.”
