STAFF at the RSPCA Block Fen Animal Centre in Wimblington, made an appeal for donations earlier this month, after their recent supplies of dog biscuit had been wolfed up.
With more than 60 hungry doggie mouths to feed at the RSPCA’s regional animal centre, the stock room had almost run empty.
The dogs were getting through a whooping three 15kg sacks a day of complete dog biscuit.
However, following an appeal for help in the local media, kind-hearted animal lovers readily responded, and now the stock room has a healthy supply again.
Deputy manager Kirstyn Gaunt said: “We had an absolute phenomenal response to our appeal and we were moved to tears by the kindness of the people who made donations.
“Many donors remained anonymous so we were not able to send them a thank-you letter, so we would like to say thank-you through the media, because the support we received was just overwhelming.
“Money is tight for many people during these difficult financial times, yet despite this so many wonderful people still made donations, and we cannot thank them enough for their fantastic generosity.
“There have been so many donations of dog biscuit bags that we actually can’t count them all, but we want everyone that took the time to make a donation to know that it is all being put to great use feeding all the lovely dogs at our centre.
“We will be holding an open day at the animal centre on Sunday 17 July and people will be able to come along and see the dogs which they have helped, and we also have loads of fun events planned for the day.”
The open day at Block Fen will be opened by cook book author Dee Hunwicks, and it starts at 11am until 4pm. Events include a fun dog show, children’s amusements and rides, craft and food stalls, raffle and tombola, agility and flyball demonstrations and much more.
Entry is £2 adults and children over five and senior citizens £1, free for children under five. All dogs brought to the event must be vaccinated.
