ONE of Fenland’s longest standing amateur theatre groups has won a clean sweep of the top awards at the annual NODA East Region District 4N awards ceremony.
The Wisbech Players, already winners of the best technical design certificate for their production of ‘The Deep Blue Sea’ by Terence Rattigan in October 2011 at the Angles theatre, Wisbech, were also nominated for the best drama award in the Eastern region for the whole of 2011.
The annual NODA Eastern region awards ceremony was held at The Radisson Blue Hotel, Stanstead airport.
The Wisbech Players production of ‘The Deep Blue Sea’ was awarded the best drama certificate and then went on to win the best overall production shield - in the face of stiff competition from the winners of the best pantomime and best musical, both won by the Right Angles Theatre Co (RATz) also from Wisbech.
Gordon Ringrose, Chairman of The Wisbech Players and director of the winning play, said: “Naturally, I am thrilled that our society has won these three prestigious awards and I’m particularly pleased for all the people involved in staging this challenging play. These awards, and those won by The Angles Theatre group, demonstrate that Wisbech produces the best theatre for its audiences in the Eastern region and we hope that we can continue this winning trend with our next production - Calendar Girls - in October.”
