AN independent pensioner celebrates her 100th birthday today (Saturday).
Dorothy Morley, who now lives in Chatteris with her son David and daughter-in-law Carol, was born in Fen Drayton. She grew up there with her nine brothers and sisters before leaving to work as a companion for her aunt in Fordham.
It was while she was working there that she met her future husband, Cyril Morley.
They eventually married and lived in Fordham throughout their lives. They had two children – David and Elizabeth, known as Beth, who sadly died in 1986 aged 49.
Dorothy and Cyril reached their diamond wedding anniversary before Cyril died in 1998 at the age of 98. It was after this that Dorothy moved to Chatteris.
She now lives in a converted bungalow with her family and has her own living area so she can remain independent.
David said: “If I can live to be 100 and be as good as her, I’ll be very happy. She was very excited about her birthday.”
Dorothy’s considerable family turned out to mark the special occasion. In addition to her nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, she has a large number of nieces, nephews and extended family.
