Over 200 people had a ball on Saturday and it was all in a good cause.

Marlene Moden and daughters Nicola Knight and Rachael Richmond, along with Jo Warren, decided to organise the fundraiser for cancer and chose Wisbech and District Cancer Support Group as the beneficiary.

This was the first time they have organised a ball.

The successful event was held at Wisbech Grammar School with a three-course meal and a band and a disco. There was a raffle and a grand draw with many donated prizes and so far, the night has raised £5,500.

Marlene explained they only expected to raise around £2,500 and were delighted to have made double that figure.

Marlene said the idea for the ball came about last year when Nicola suggested they should do something for cancer.

“Jo joined in the conversation and it went from there. We were going to hold it in July but I said what about Valentine’s,” said Marlene.
