Schoolgirl Ellie-Mae Ridgeon put her best foot forward on Saturday to raise £1,100 for man’s best friend.

The seven-year-old walked more than two miles to fundraise for JJ Rescue and Cannie Rehab, a March dog rescue where she has been volunteering, despite not feeling well on the day.

Mum Shelley said: “She wasn’t very well but she managed it. We had to stop halfway to get her some more medicine.”

The family have been overwhelmed by the support from the public for Ellie-Mae’s fundraising. She had complete strangers donate money as she walked and local business supported her with signs on the way.

Ellie-Mae took along her favourite rescue dog, Buster, for the walk from the Pet Shop on Commercial Road to Neale-Wade Academy. The youngster was accompanied by dad Mark and Robert Phipps, who runs the dog rescue and also owns the Pet Shops on Commercial Road and Station Road, where you can still donate.
