Gary Swan is the new Fenland District councillor for St Mary’s

Gary Swan is the new Fenland District councillor for St Marys Ward, Whittlesey following a By-Election. The Conservative topped the poll and these are the results of the votes.

GALE, Colin (Labour) 78 (12.28%); GERSTNER, Roy (Independent) 160 (25.20%); SWAN, Gary (Conservative) 397

(62.52%). Turnout was 30%.

Debbie Clark, organising secretary, North East Cambs Conservative Assocation, said: “This was a marginal seat and coupled with the fact it was held in the midst of the supermarket issue, it was never going to be an easy campaign. However, with a superb candidate with a proven track record of success who fully canvassed, leafleted and listened to the voters, the result was a spectacular win, completely surpassing our expectations.

“Conservatives work as a team and I would like to thank everyone who helped in the campaign. He will be a great addition to the Conservative team and will be a loud and clear voice for all residents of St Marys Ward, irrespective of political allegiance.”
