A young person from Wisbech has realised his ambitions of stardom thanks to a recent performance in the West End.
Matthew Nunn, a student from New College Stamford and Wildcats Academy, is one of only 100 students from across the country invited to perform at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London earlier this month.
As part of his two year Musical Theatre course, which was introduced to the College this year, Matthew was given the opportunity to perform songs and scenes from the hit UK musical Ghost.
Speaking of the performance, Matthew said: “I am so excited to have taken part in this amazing show, set in this stunning theatre in front of a fantastic crowd.
“The course at New College Stamford has given me the ability to improve my vocal training, theatre and audition skills and has provided me with some amazing opportunities to get first hand experience. I am hoping that I will be able to take these skills to the next level and pursue a career on the stage.”
Director of Learning at the College, Robin Webber-Jones said: “We joined forces with Wildcats Theatre School in Stamford and Peterborough to offer the Level 3 in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) course at the Wildcats Academy which started in September.
“We believe it is really important for our students to get access to as many real life experiences as possible, so giving them the chance to perform in the West End is a great way for our students to learn what life on the stage is really like.”
The students are now rehearsing for their next performance of a rendition of songs from a number of hit musicals at the O2 arena on 26th February as well as the College’s rendition of the musical Rent in the summer.
Based on the popular film of the same title, the musical production of Ghost premiered at Manchester Opera House in March 2011 and enjoyed a four-month stint in the West End before moving to Broadway in March 2012. An official UK tour has been announced for April next year.
