THE projected designs of monuments honouring the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee (Citizen August 10) remind me of the parlous state of our country - unbalanced, symmetrically imperfect and devoid of any sense of direction.
Would it not be a better idea and a more practical one, to invite March inhabitants to contribute to the East Anglian Air Ambulance service, undoubtedly a very worthy cause which struggles to keep an even keel especially in heavy servicing costs to the aircraft.
The skill of air crews and paramedics and others involved are much to be admired and they save lives in East Anglia every day.
Public contributions and donations from our councils could be recorded for posterity on a specially commissioned plaque seen to good advantage in March town hall.
I’m sure the Queen would approve.
