AS Parade Marshall and branch chairman of the Royal British Legion in Chatteris, I would like to thank the public of Chatteris for their fantastic support for the Remembrance Day Parade and service.
Some 200 marchers were involved from the diminishing numbers of WW2 to the Scouts, Guides, Chatteris Boxing Club, Cromwell Community College, Chatteris Detachment of the Army Cadets and the newly- created Dots to Dots children’s group who made and laid their own wreath.
There were 30 wreaths laid including those from the First Secretary to the Fijian High Commission in London Mr Senitieli Wainiu and his daughters Rebecca and Mary (who performed both at our concert the night before and at the service of Remembrance), MP’s representative Alan Brace, FDC and local Town Council.
The branch would like to thank the following for their contribution: Court Leet for their contribution for new flags, the family of the late Richard Sulston for their contribution for the new flag poles, Richard Skeggs of the Cross Keys Hotel for accommodation our Fijian guests free, and L R Boon and Sons of Benwick for supplying the steel for the new flag poles at a reduced cost.
Also to all our citizens who have contributed to this year’s Poppy Appeal in our 90th Year. It promises to eclipse the contributions of those in the past. To everyone else who contributed to the organisation, thank you for all your help.
