PHILIP Wright’s letter regarding the ‘Apple’ Service station at Chatteris mentions the fact that when previously trading as BP, the prices were a lot higher.
I have noticed from travelling around the country that BP are generally the highest priced. They also recently made a multi-billion payout to people in the Gulf of Mexico to compensate for the oil spill there. This is on top of what it has already cost them and makes me wonder whether BP customers are paying for their losses in this matter.
The Government could help motorists by charging VAT on the basic price of fuel before fuel duty is added, instead of, as now, after the addition which means at the moment we are paying a tax on a tax. Taking my suggestion would reduce prices by between 9-11p per litre.
