I read the article (Citizen March 6) about the suggested changes to the A47 Broadend Road junction at Walsoken with Bridget Wall suggesting a roundabout as opposed to Highways suggesting a warning activated sign and double white lines. As a driver with many years’ experience I suggest that the problem isn’t speed. Although the junction is marked with a filter system, it is quite ineffective. A vehicle overtaking another vehicle which is slowing and indicating to turn left, cannot be seen by a vehicle coming out onto the A47.
I would propose a no overtaking stretch, clearly signed at least 300 metres before the junction in both directions. Also to install traffic islands so that overtaking becomes impossible. To the extent it should be a no overtaking area between both roundabouts, as there is little opportunity overtake anyway.
