I support Steve Barclay MP who has spoken out following BBC Look East’s programme concerning the exploitation of migrant workers.
It is right that the full force of the state through Operation Pheasant is brought to bear on gangmasters not registered with the Gangmasters’ Licencing Agency.
Farmers who use migrant labour supplied by illegal gangmasters should be subject to large fines for doing so.
The books of registered gangmasters should be regularly inspected by HM Revenue & Customs in order that migrant workers are paid at least the minimum wage. I also support Mr Barclay’s campaign for a Landlords’ Licencing Agency to ensure all migrant workers have a safe and clean home to live in.
