Cllr Tierney’s comments regarding the proposed franchise of Wisbech Crown Post Office into the back of Etcetera ignores the fact that if Etcetera pull out of the proposed franchise then the Post Office will be back to square one and the Crown Post Office will stay at its current location, with its current long serving staff.

It is unlikely that any other location would be found, because if a kitchenware shop cum café is the first choice for a franchise then I expect this was the only applicant to take on the Post Office in Wisbech.

Post Office Limited would not find an out-of-town location acceptable and, with the refurbishment of the Norfolk Street Post Office, it is unlikely that the Post Office could move nearer to that one, ruling out stores such as WH Smith who run several Post Offices.

Therefore, the (Communication Workers’ Union) CWU feel it is quite legitimate to call on Mr Wicks of Etcetera to pull out of the franchise and to put pressure in the form of a boycott by the Wisbech public (of which over 3000 residents signed a petition to save the Crown Office). We will continue our Postcard campaign and boycott and hope that Mr Wicks will bow to public pressure.
