Have your say

I was so sad to learn of the death of Rita Goodger. I met this great lady shortly after arriving in town almost 22 years ago; she took me to task for not arriving at her house on time to collect the video tape of Chatteris I had ordered.

Instead of being affronted, I was secretly amused by her ‘greeting’. This set the tone of our relationship over the years and I came to love her as a very dear friend. I’d visit her at home now and then, sometimes just to see how she was and sometimes in response to a Rita summons! I helped her over several days to catalogue and file her many photos and memorabilia of Chatteris and people. I too, used to write an article for the former Citizen Extra on subjects related to Chatteris and its history. Rita was an ever-present fund of knowledge. I met her one time when she was accompanied by a couple of ladies; she introduced me to them, adding that I wrote articles for the Citizen Extra, but I knew nothing about Chatteris! That was dear Rita – blunt as they come but the most lovable person nonetheless. I will miss you very much Rita. Know that you were loved and appreciated by the multitude.
