Reader letter: Village fete cancelled

With regret, and after a great deal of discussion, the Elm Fete Committee has decided to cancel this year’s fete, which was to have been held in June. There is now an increased requirement to document Health and Safety measures and present these to the new Cambridgeshire County Council Safety Advisory Group when public events are planned. Insurance costs have also increased a great deal. Our very small committee does not have the time or capacity to meet these requirements by June. We hope that with more local support we may be able to have a village fete in 2014.

We are very sorry for those who will miss attending what has always been a very enjoyable event, and would like to thank all the volunteers and local businesses who have supported us so faithfully in the past. We intend to go ahead with the prize draw and both All Saints Church and Elm Primary School will be organising other fundraising events on a smaller scale. We hope that local people will continue to help us raise money for the church and the school in this way.
