Readers’ Letter: Wisbech floods

The death of Barnoness Thatcher has been in the news.

I am not going to say anything about that but some people, however, have been talking about the visit of Margaret Thatcher to Wisbech in 1978 following the terrible flooding in some parts of the town.

I lived in Edinburgh Drive, Wisbech, during the flooding. That was part of the area badly hit by three feet of water and our family was flooded out. That’s another story which can be told later if anyone is interested.

I want to point out that Clement Freud was the MP at the time and spent a lot of time in Wisbech after the flooding. He visited the flooded homes and we had a visit from him and he didn’t have an entourage and wasn’t looking for votes.
