AS chairman of Wisbech Round Table, I want to take this opportunity to thank all the people who made the Rose Fair parade such a success.
The weather was perfect again this year and added to the enjoyment of those taking part and those watching the colourful floats.
Although we experienced a few last minute cancellations of float entries and the marching band, the work and the creativity of the schools, clubs and other organisations that took part was excellent.
The overall winner for the second successive year was Marshland St James Primary school with their adaptation of ‘The Great Fire of London’ with Clarkson Infant and Nursery School adapting the same theme in the ‘Junior Winners’ section. Beaupre Community Primary School receiving the ‘Highly Commended’ award for their portrayal of the 1st Olympics.
Thank you to the Mayor and Mayoress of Wisbech, Mr and Mrs Jonathan Farmer, and the MP Stephen Barclay for judging the floats this year.
I am pleased to confirm we already have a band booked for 2012 and in announcing next year’s theme as ‘The Olympics’, I encourage schools, clubs and organisations to start planning to enter.
A big ‘thank you’ to all the people that helped to ensure Saturday went ahead. Jasmin Jackson (our Rose Queen for 2011), our sponsors for all the generous support they have given to help pay for the parades, the transport firms who provided the lorries and drivers, Fenland District Council, my Round Table colleagues and their families, and all the people from Wisbech and the surrounding area who came and watched the parades.
