ON behalf of the members of the Rotary Club of Chatteris, I thank those customers of the Co-operative Store at Bridge Street, Chatteris, who generously donated to the charity collection held on December 24.

The collection continued from 9.30am until 15.45pm, and in that period - despite the recession - the donations collected by Rotarians amounted to just over £788.

This sum will be applied to a variety of charities, many of them local to Chatteris, by the Rotary Club during 2011.

The members of the Rotary Club thank all residents in Chatteris who contributed to the charity collections on many evenings in December when the ‘Father Christmas’ float toured the streets.

The collections occurred when the weather was most cold. Despite the icy conditions underfoot, the Rotary members continued with what has become an annual event.

However, access past some residences was restricted by snow and/or vehicles. To the children (and parents) in those residences waiting to see Santa we apologise.

We will make every effort to complete all routes in December 2011.

The efforts of the Rotarians was well rewarded by the generous residents donating in excess of £2400 from the evening collections. This sum will be applied to a variety of charities, many of them local to Chatteris,

JONATHAN FINCH
