Why not have separate dog run enclosures?

Have your say

FURTHER to the recent letters regarding dog walking.

Personally, I think it would be a good idea to have a designated ‘off lead’ walking area in each park, totally enclosed where dogs can have a good run (essential for their health and well-being) this way the owners wouldn’t have to worry about them running up to children, and the public wouldn’t have to worry about having dogs running up to them.

Anywhere outside the enclosures the dogs should be on a lead. It’s easy to say that a dog should be well behaved and not run up to people, but I am in the process of training my dogs and, whilst they are getting better, I can’t guarantee that they won’t be tempted to run off to say hello to someone.

They love people and dogs, and children playing ball is very tempting to many dogs, and not all children play in the gated areas where dogs are excluded and they shouldn’t have to.

I would be interested to hear if any other readers would be interested in this, maybe we could all get together somehow and see if we could get a couple of enclosures or perhaps all write to Fenland District Council. West End and the park by Wigstones Bridge are both big enough to have a large area fenced off so there could be at least one north and one south side of town.
