WISBECH-based Sensas Mark One got off to a poor start by their high standards in the East Midland Angling Times Team Championship and will have their work cut out if they are to make it through to the semi-final stages this season.
There is much better news to report from the Drennan Premier League, though, which saw them going through to the final in March 2009 thanks to a sterling performance on a difficult River Trent last Saturday.

Townsend AC

Dennis Sambridge set a new best for the Cuckoo Lake at Townsend, Upwell, when he landed 79-04 fishing with worm as hook bait.

There were no dry nets as 18 members enjoyed a good day. Second was Martin Wollnough with 54-02.

Other weights - Martin King 52-08, Alan Driver 45-06, Andy Adams 42-06, Peter Church 36-04, Alan Humphrey 29-08.

Premier Foods-Crown Foods Challenge

THE annual challenge match between Wisbech-based Premier Foods and Crown Foods produced an excellent event on the Oak and Yew Pools at the Decoy complex.

Our local rods took the honours in last year's challenge, but the visitors took revenge with 15 points to Premier Foods' 13.

On the individual front, Crown angler Richard Morris took first place. He fished peg 7 on the Yew Pool and put a net of carp together, taken close in with sweetcorn, to record 44lb 4oz.

Runner-up was Paul Green, fishing for Premier Foods. He fished the pool with maggot on Oak peg 41 to record 41lb 2oz. Roger Archer came third with 36lb 4oz, followed by John Boughen with a level 33lb.

Tydd Gote AC

IT would seem that several waters were not at their best over the weekend. Even the usually prolific North Level drain saw the Tydd Gote anglers struggling for bites.

Top rod with 7lb 15oz was Dave Parlett. He fished the pole with worm taking two perch and a decent tench. Mick Gamble came second on 2lb 15oz, followed by Colin Gibbons with 1lb 14oz.

It is going to be a busy weekend for the Tydd Gote club. The winter league will be at Clough Bridge, with the draw at 9am.

Also fished on the same day will be an ACA Pike Qualifier. The draw is at the treatment works, Clough, at 8.30am. Contact Dave Parlett on 01945-463913 for further details or to get booked in.

Fields End Water

FIELDS End Water at Doddington produced some big weights for the visiting Webb's AC at the weekend.

Top rod with a level 66lb was Paul Rayner. He fished maggot and pellet up in the water from peg 11.

Similar tactics saw Dave Preston into second place. He drew the next peg and finished with 61lb 7oz. Third place went to Nick Carlton from peg 7. He had 41lb 8oz.

Headfen Fishery

THE Snake Pool at Headfen Fishery was in cracking form in their open match. Nigel Fowkes came out on top with an excellent 101-00. He drew peg 21 and took a net of small carp on the nine metre line fished down the middle with pellet.
