Woodbridge 1, Wisbech 3
Scott Cubberley rattled off his first hat-trick for Wisbech as they got back on track with only their second win in seven seasons at Notcutts Park on Saturday.

It was just the reaction manager Steve Taylor had called for after their disappointing FA Vase exit at Cornard seven days earlier.

Taylor was forced to reshuffle his team with Richard Harnwell, Stuart King and James McManus all ruled out unfit.

Lee Day returned in the unusual position in midfield, but drew praise from his manager who commented: "He did very well and showed just the right attitude."

The home side, playing in front of the biggest gate of day in the league with 435 present, started the brighter and the Wisbech defence had to soak up some pressure.

But the defence, with Paul Cousins and Anthony Reeve again superb, were strong and when called upon Chris Horton looked as safe as houses.

Even so it was Woodbridge who came closest to scoring when a shot from 15 yards rattled the post, but almost immediately Wisbech were in front five minutes before the break.

Cubberley intercepted a pass and turned his marker before unleashing a delicate chip with his left foot from 18 yards out to beat the home keeper.

Three minutes later Cubberley was on the mark again when he made the most of a defensive error to shoot through a crowd of players and into the net from just inside the area.

Wisbech continued to have the upper-hand after the break without increasing their lead. Then with 10 minutes remaining Woodbridge hit them with a breakaway goal with the final shot from 15 yards giving Horton, for once , no chance of saving.

Cubberley came up with the perfect answer when he completed his hat-trick two minutes later, this time beating a defender and moving into the box before hitting an accurate shot into the net.

The young striker has now scored 11 goals already this season but is attracting interest from other clubs.

Taylor said: "Cubberley is in very good form at the moment and all three goals showed just how cool he is when the chances come. We have had inquiries but at the moment he is staying with us.

"It was good performance from us and I got just the right reaction from the players and we showed how good we can be on our day."

Wisbech: Chris Horton, Lewis Cook, Gary Setchell, Anthony Reeve, Paul Cousins, Lee Day, Stuart Ablett,Stuart Cobb, Nick Impey, Scott Cubberley, Jason Pease.

Subs used: Lewis Thompson, Grant Rider

Swaffham 0, March 1

A switch in tactics at the break helped the Hares collect the three points against struggling Swaffham last Saturday.

In the first half Swaffham, with a packed midfield, were stifling March's attempts at playing football and they continually gave the ball away.
