CHATTERIS Town have moved to the top of Cambs League Senior A despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home to third placed Hardwick on Saturday.
In a fairly even first half Chatteris took the lead after 30 minutes when Steve Reid broke from midfield to score.
They looked to go into the break in the lead but almost on the stroke of half-time Hardwick were awarded a dubious penalty.
New
signing Tony Brown from Ely looked to have won the ball cleanly on the edge of the are but the referee felt otherwise and pointed to the penalty spot and the visitors made no mistake from the spot kick.
Chatteris huffed and puffed in ths second half with breaking the Hardwick defence but as the game wore the lack of fitness after seven weeks without a game began to tell.
The Lillies boss Jimmy Unwin said: "A draw was fair result in the end but it looked a dubious penalty. Tony Brown looks a good signing for us and his experience is going to be a big boost from now to the end of the season."
Wisbech Town Reserves lost 5-1 against Brampton with Max Mattless scoring the consolation goal.
Wisbech St Mary continued their rich vein of form with 2-0 win over March Town Reserves in Senior B to remain in second place behind Linton Granta.
This local derby was hard fought contest in the first half with March pressurising their high-flying opponents and stopping them playing their football. As a result there were few chances at either end and it was 0-0 at the break.
The deadlock was broken on the hour when Chris Macaree crossed and Ben Bothamley half-volleyed the ball into the net.
The goal gave the Saints the impetus and 15 minutes later it was Chris Macaree who broke clear and shot past the keeper.
Manager Kenny Williams said: "We have won every game in 2010 and just keep on the trail of leaders Linton Granta. Hopefully they will drop some more points before we play them towards the end of the season which could decide the title."
Paul Brenchley believes Outwell Swifts are a club in turmoil after his side's 5-3 defeat at high-riding Soham United.
"There is just not the commitment from the players at the moment. We had to call off our reserves game because we did not have enough players and then the first team were short when two players just did not bother to turn up."
