TRAGEDY struck for the second week running for Wimblington when midfield player Marc Sheeron sustained a ruptured knee ligament 20 minutes from the end of the Peterborough Premier Division game at Parson Drove.
The previous week it was Jay Whytock who suffered a head injury for the second time in nine months to bring his career to an end and Sheeron may also be forced to quit the game.

Manager Chris Bartlett said: "It was a 50-50 challenge. It looked as through Marc's studs may have stuck in the ground. The game had to be abandoned while we waited for an ambulance.

"Marc is a Wimblington lad and a big part of the club and his presence in the dressing room will be badly missed."

Wimblington were trailing 1-0 at the time to a goal by Parson Drove's Kieren Clarke but Bartlett felt his side still had the chance to have draw level as they were enjoying their best spell of the game when the incident brought things to a close.

Leverington progressed to the second round of the PFA Cup with a 4-2 win over Division One neighbours Guyhirn but made hard work of it and only settled the tie 4-2 in extra time.

Dean Jimson hit a hat-trick for the winners and his first goal gave Leverington a half-time lead when his 30-yard volley took a nasty bounce over the head of Guyhirn keeper Lee Brooks.

Leverington allowed Guyhirn back into the game after the break and after sloppy defending Mark Newton hit the equaliser. But they then lost Stuart Warby who was sent off for two yellow cards.

But in extra time Leverington produced their best football and Wayne Wallace restored their lead from close range before Jimson hit two goals to settle the tie. Jody Day hit a late second goal for Guyhirn to make it 4-2.

Chris Dear, in charge of Leverington in Wayne Garner's absence commented: "We should have been 2-0 up before we even scored but after that we made hard work of it. We sorted ourselves out in extra time and deserved the win in the end."

Guyhirn manager Peter Newton said: "It was not a good game and neither side were at their best. Not having a game for two weeks did not help us and we did much better in the second half when we equalised and had the chances to have won the game. But in extra time they killed us with two goals in the first 15 minutes."

Guyhirn have lost striker Michael Moore who has decided to retire after a spate of injuries but the club have quickly signed Richard Parrish from Wimblington as a replacement and hope to make another signing this week. Tony McAulay is also back after injury.

Newton added:"We have made a good start in the league and are hoping we can continue the run.
