WISBECH Town got the new cricket season off to a flyer on Saturday with a four-wicket win at home to Camden in the Cambs Tucker Gardner Division One.
Taking to the field first, Wisbech restricted Camden to 149-8 off 48 overs with the eight wickets spread between Brad Apted, who took 2-19 off seven overs, Mark Sheppard (2), Ben Alsopp (2) and James Williams.

In reply, Wisbech got off to a cracki
ng start thanks to openers Sam Albutt (21) and David Wood (22) who gave them a solid foundation.

The good work was then continued by Gary Freear who top scored with 44 and Chris Clark (26), before Adam Hodgson hit the winning runs with a boundary.

On Monday Wisbech suffered a heavy defeat to Rushton.

Batting first, the visitors made 264-9 off their 45 overs, Johnson the pick of the bowlers with 5-68 off 11 overs.

Wisbech lost opener Gary Freear for three but recovered with a good partnership between Albutt and Williams (both 31).

However, they then suffered a batting collapse and were dismissed for 120 with 9.1 overs still remaining.

Champions March Town suffered a defeat at the hands of Burwell, but can take many positives from the game – including taking 14 points to Burwell's 20.

Batting first on the smallest ground in the league, Andrew Mills hit the lion's share of the runs as he smashed no less than 16 boundaries in his innings of 87.

He shared in an opening stand with 15-year-old Connor Cunningham (20) and with Aussie Andrew Devonish weighed in with 35 runs in the total of 206-7.

With former Zimbabwean Test cricketer Grant Flower leading Burwell's batting line-up, March looked to be 25 runs short of a winning score.

However, March skipper Chris Ringham claimed the wicket of Flower with his left-arm swing.

The Essex opening bat was the first of four bowled scalps for Ringham, who took 4-37.

All-rounder Carl Chapman bagged yet another two wickets, but was unable to prevent the home team crossing the finishing line with three overs to spare and three wickets in hand.
