Good turnout for action-packed heats

WISBECH and District Kart Racing Club's June meeting was held at Christchurch on Sunday.
A good turnout of karts led to an action-packed five heats for points followed by the allcomers sessions.

The junior 70cc class was led by Owen Smith with 94pts from Luke Huggins on 74 and the number 4 kart of Ti Burt on 62. In the 90cc juniors speedy Scott White won on 92 pts from James Veal 76 and Harry Hensby 74.

The 125cc juniors with at least two years’ competitive racing under their belts was extremely close and joint first on 64 points were Toby Burt and Ben Golding, with Reece Beldom third on 58.

The 125cc seniors saw some cool overtaking by Andy Brunton to secure a first and 86 points with father and son Tim and Joe Carter coming in on 76 and 70 points respectively.The heavy kart class of 4-strokes saw the shared kart of Richard Ward and Stuart Hall bag the top spot on 88 points while John Davis was second also on 88 and third on 77 points was Karl Fisher.

Andrew Leech won the senior 250cc class on 94 pts from Fred Hornigold on 88 and third Mark Rolph on 80.

A great day for Liam Russell-Smith who gained his first win in the heat rounds and then went on to storm through the pack to win the junior allcomers.The second junior allcomers was won by the rock steady Ashley Hornigold who kept a great racing line to keep Josh Kierman and George Carter behind him in second and third.The senior allcomers was won by Andrew Leech who took no prisoners, and a huge grid turnout for the mechanics race saw Robin Kingham lift the trophy. Junior of the day was awarded to number 11 kart driver Ryan Simmonds in his 90cc.

On Sunday the Wisbech club hosts the prestigious British Grass Kart Championship at Christchurch with racing from 11am; details can be obtained from club chairman Andy Golding on 01366 388077.
