Long Sutton put in a much improved performance and may consider themselves a little unfortunate not to have left this NE14 Hockey East Premier B match with at least a point.
The visitors opened with a greater intensity than they have done in rece
nt weeks and from the first attack of the game good build up play saw Nick Ellis cross for Gary Hales to provide the deftest of finishes.
Pelicans came back strongly and their powerful short corner routine saw them gaining two quick goals. Sutton levelled with Hales calmly finishing at a corner after good work from Will Dean.
The hosts added to their advantage with another corner goal, Sutton had the chance to level as Hales went close again following an Ellis through ball.
The second half opened with Sutton again playing good passing hockey and a move through a number of players including an excellent through ball from Ash Taylor saw Hales complete a high quality hat trick.
The game became more disjointed with two home players being dismissed but Sutton were unable to capitalise despite creating a number of chances.
Pelicans continued to retain possession and eventually a break down the left led to a fourth goal. Sutton were unable to find an equaliser despite good play particularly from Dean at sweeper and Jimmy Harrison in the midfield.
Sutton will look to take their good away form home when they entertain Broxbourne on Saturday (Peele School 1pm start).
