TYDD St Giles schoolboy George Russell has finished runner-up in the WTP British Karting Championships held over eight rounds throughout the country.
The 10-year-old, who attends Wisbech Grammar School, won the final round at Ellough Park after starting from pole position to clinch second spot in the championships which began in April. He was third in last season's series.

Russell did not start the competition too well when dogged with mechancical problems in the earlier rounds. But he soon put things right and finished the season with two wins, a second and a third.

Russell also celebrated his biggest win this season at the Kartmasters, the country's largest and most prestigious event in the karting calendar.

He won the WTP Grand Prix and gets to use the coveted GP plate on his kart for a year. George is following in the footsteps of older brother, Benjy Russell, who won the world karting championships in Dubai at the end of last year.

George started karting as seven-year-old and his mother Alison said: "He can stay in this class until he is 13 but is now considering moving up a class to mini-max for next season."
