THERE was another busy weekend of action at the Norfolk Arena with the F1 Stock Cars and Saloon Stock Cars in action on Saturday night and the TSR Bangers, 1300 Stock Cars and BriSCA MiniStox in action on Sunday.
There were no local drivers in action on Saturday with Saloon drivers Steve McMillan and Lee Green (both Wisbech) nursing injuries sustained at the end of May. Steve’s brother Shaun will soon be in the 2L Stock Cars having recently purchased the Jaime Clayton shale car.

Lee Farrell (Wisbech) was a busy man in action in both the TSR Bangers and the 1300 Stock Cars. Farrell was in action in the charity race for the TSR Bangers which was entered by several drivers who were raising money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Rudham Children’s Ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. When the green flag dropped Farrell showed the rest of the grid a clean set of wheels and stormed into a lead he was never going to relinquish despite the best efforts of Adam Lamb (Lynn) and Martin Broomfield (Hunstanton).

In the first heat proper for the TSR Bangers, Helen Licquorice (Leverington), making a rare appearance in the formula was up to fifth place when she was spun out by David Gibson (Bourne).

The second heat saw the ever improving Sam Gowler (Wisbech) as the early leader while Dan Clarke (Wisbech) was spun out by Steve Bowers (Sudbury). Gowler eventually finished fifth.

Licquorice did manage to qualify for the final with a ninth place finish in the consolation but she was an early victim in the feature race when she was spun round by Garry Lown (Norwich) and then collected by Paul Bailey (Stamford). Gowler also found trouble in this race and failed to finish.

Dan Clarke was again an early victim in the All Comers Race when he found himself facing the wrong way courtesy of the Shaun Haller (Fakenham) bumper. Gowler found himself stuck in the fence with Haller in the back of him a lap later with Clarke also sliding wide and smashing into the stranded Gowler machine a lap later as a parking lot developed.

In the first 1300 Stock Car heat Lee Farrell (Wisbech) led until half way when he retired and Buster Ketteringham (Wisbech) took over. Steve Clayton (Holbeach) followed Buster but Richard Hampshire (Wisbech) soon emerged as Buster’s principal challenger and in a well timed move waited until the final lap before putting Ketteringham wide and taking the win with John Moat (Wisbech) coming through for second before Buster recovered for third place for a Wisbech top three.

Farrell was again the main pace-setter in the 1300 Stock Car second heat until he again retired at half way which allowed Steve Clayton to hit the front. Clayton then held off Scott Greenslade (Wisbech) to take the win.

The final was once again all about Danny McCluskey (Littleport) who stormed from the front of the whites to win his second final in the formula in as many weeks. Dean Moat was the best local finisher in fourth place.
