WISBECH scored a decisive win over old rivals March at Harecroft Road on Saturday to finish runners-up in the Cambs Tucker Legaue.
Gary Freear's young side have been a little unfortunate not to take the championship themselves and might have done if the weather had been kinder.
They missed both games against bottom club Godmanchester, which were rained off, and finished only
10 points behind winners Nassington.
Wisbech bowled out a March side struggling for runs in recent weeks for 135.
County bowler James Williams with four for 40 and Craig Johnson four for 23 did the damage to a paper-thin March batting with Nigel Wright 29 and Stuart Mills 26 the best of them.
March's hopes rose when opening bowlers Steve Seymour and Chris Ringham removed the Wisbech openers early on but Williams 29 and his skipper Freear 27 steadied the ship before David Woods 32 not out and Adam Hodson 23 not out completed the rout at 138 for four.
Chris Peckett was the best of the March bowlers with two for 19 off seven overs.
Freear said: “It was a good performance on Saturday and a good way to finish the season. Hopefully we will have very much the same squad for next season and we can have another try at the title then.”
March had a very disappointing end to the season after looking a serious challenge to champions Nassington at the halfway point, fading away into fourth place.
Skipper Ringham commented: “Wisbech outplayed us in all departments. I thought we could score 200-plus, but we played too many loose shots and our total was never going to be enough. We have had a very poor second half to the season.
“We will look to make a couple of new signings for next season and try to pick ourselves up. We hope to have Shardul Brahmbhatt back next season, which will be a big boost.”
