Wisbech Tennis Club's teams have had mixed fortunes with the weather in the last week.
The men's team that competed watched the thunderstorm go around their opponent's courts but this did not deter team and they whitewashed the opposition of West Norfolk B (Runcton) 8-0 in the North West Norfolk League.

Team was J Newton, R Thomas,
D Bambridge and G Fitzjohn.
But rain stopped play in their match against KES (Kings Lynn) at home.

The Ladies B team, in the Peterborough and Huntingdon League, played away at Thorpewood (Peterborough) and lost 7-1 during a rain interrupted match.

Pitcher and Collins claimed the only set of the evening. Team: S Pitcher, R Collins, K Hall and J Goodley.

The juniors of Wisbech Tennis Club had a busy weekend competing.

On Saturday Oliver Mitchell, Isabella Pope and Janhardan Sundar took part in 8 years and under red mini tennis event at Easton tennis centre near Norwich. Isabella won four of her seven matches and Janhardan came second in his box.

Also Adam Groves went to the county finals under 14 for the road to Wimbledon where unfortunately he met the number one seed who is the number 10 in his age group for the country.

He lost his match but it is not often you get to earn the opportunity to play at that level.

James Clarke also took part as the runner-up for the road to Wimbledon where he met the fourth seed.

He lost his match but had the opportunity to play a second match which will go towards his rating points which he won 7-6, 5-7, 10-6.

On Sunday Oliver Warren travelled over to Easton to play a match and won his first match 6-0, 7-5 and had a close second match losing 6-4, 6-4.

The club has also entered a 13 and under league and Lewis Chapman and William Jupp travelled to Cottenham, Lewis lost his singles 4-2 4-2 and William won his first short set 5-3 but then lost the second 4-2 and the tie break 10-2.

The doubles was hard fought and the boys finally lost the match on a second set tie break 8-6.

The club is holding tennis fun camps for juniors aged 6-12 years during the first three weeks of the summer holidays. The camps will run from 10am to 1pm every day Monday to Thursday.

Juniors can take part any one day or all week.

Any standard welcome as they will be put into groups on the day racquets can be borrowed.
