Six-year-old angler James Porter caught a fish almost as big as himself with a 14lb 3oz common carp at Dents Pits, Hilgay last week.
The youngster – pictured with his catch – was out fishing with his father Andrew and his five-year-old brother Alfie when he landed his whopper. He was using float on breadcrust on the surface.

Father Andrew said: “Before he caught this carp he also had two other good bites but they broke trying to land them.

“I did give him a hand to land his carp but apart from that it was all down to him and to make matters worse I did not get a bite all day.

“We go fishing most weekends and young Alfie is also getting very keen too now but he fell asleep so missed James landing his big fish.”

This is not the first big carp James has landed he pulled in a 10lb 2oz carp last year.

But angling is not the only sport for James.

He played his first games for Outwell Swifts soccer team at the weekend and came home with a medal.
