The “Strip” Pools on the Decoy complex have been in fine form of late, the Spratts AC lads were one of the latest clubs to enjoy some cracking action on the Elm.

Top rod was Trevor Cousins. He fished meat close in from peg 11 taking carp to 7lb for a match win putting 168lb 5oz to the scales. Pellet and paste saw Peter Spriggs take the runner-up spot with 129lb 2oz followed by John Smith 121lb 3oz.

In the big Buttonhole two-day final fished last weekend angling journalist Tony Grigorjevs took the top spot with two section wins and a combined weight of 194lb 6oz. Runner-up was Matt Ayres with three points (189lb 10oz), Lester Pratt third on four points (197lb).

It was tight at the top in the latest Fenland rods match fished on the Cedar Pool at Decoy Lakes, with Tim Bates and John Smith going head to head on pegs 6 and 7. Some huge weights were taken with both anglers catching short on meat fished close in.

Bates just edged it at the final whistle, the March rod putting 178lb 2oz to the scales, with John runner-up on 173lb 12oz. Dave Garner third 146lb 9oz, Kev Lee 146lb 2oz.

This weekend the club fixture is on the Jay Lake at Pidley.

Last week saw the Chatteris WMC angling section fishing the Forty Foot Drain on the Pump and with no blanks most anglers had a good days sport. Top rod with 6lb 12oz was Mark Dunham, he put 6lb 12oz to the scales, his catch included a tench. Runner-up with 6lb 6oz was John Roper followed by Steve Newell on 5lb 14oz.

In the Tuesday Tydd Gote match held at Black Dyke Jamie Cooper took the top spot with a net of skimmers taken on the pole weighing in 5lb 2oz. Mick Asker came second with 4lb 10oz followed by Dave Parlett with 3lb 5 ½ oz.

Thursday’s match saw Andy Greenwood fish the chop worm and caster approach to finish top with 8lb 13oz. Andy caught a tench along with perch and skimmers. Dave Parlett was second on 5lb 11oz followed by Mick Asker with 4lb

Sunday’s match at Main Road once again produced some good weights, Danny Hall running out a comfortable winner with bream, skimmers and perch taken on the pole for 20lb 10oz. Colin Burton came in second with 14lb 12oz followed by Paul Constable with 12lb 5oz.

The last Thursday evening match of the summer will draw at 5pm, at Black Dyke, while on Sunday the match will draw at 11am fish noon-5pm at Main Road. The first Wednesday open match starts next week on August 28, draw at 9am, fish 10-3 at Main Road, details from Dave Parlett on 01945 463913.

There was a big winning weight in the Whitwell Memorial Cup fished on the Forty Foot Drain on Sunday, Andrew Kilby winning the Ramsey match with 43lb 7oz, he drew the upstream end peg and caught 17 small bream and eels. Paul Kilby was second with 6lb 15oz followed by Ray Myring with 5lb 1oz.

On Saturday the club have an Adult & Junior Pairs match at Ramsey St Marys, draw 1pm fish 2-6pm, while on Monday it’s the Hospital Cup Open, fished on the Forty Foot, draw 8.15am.

Townsend Fishery boss Colin Begbie is just too good right now for the opposition on the Kingfisher pool as once again he topped the latest open on the lake, this time with 72lb 2oz taken from peg 2 with a small Method feeder. Dave Rodwell came in second on 52lb 7oz followed by Robert Betts with 49lb 4oz.
