The Horseshoe Lake on the Decoy complex has not yet got into full swing as it showed in the latest Spratts AC match, writes Ken Wade.
However Trevor Cousins continued his fine run of form taking the top spot from peg 8 with 96lb 3oz. Trevor caught on cat meat close in netting F1’s and carp to 8lb.
On peg 3 was Peter Spriggs, he fished his favourite pellet and paste approach to put 77lb 14oz to the scales. He was closely followed by Mick Raby, he was also on paste and caught 77lb 13oz.
You could have drawn a dividing line half way down the Elm Pool in the weekend’s Fenland Rods fixture.
All those anglers drawn at the bottom end caught quite a lot of fish but those in the top half really did struggle for bites .
Drawn on peg 11 the last peg of the match was Mac Campbell who caught all day long close in on pellet for a winning weight of 122lb, mainly F1’s with the occasional larger fish.
On the opposite side to him on peg 13 was Neil Garner. He fished cat meat close in on rod and line for 118lb 12oz. Peg 15 saw Mel Lutkin fishing straight lead with hair rigged cat meat to record 95lb 8oz for third place.
In the Saturday £1,000 qualifier at Rookery Waters a cold easterly wind and a slight frost during the night made the fish wary for the first couple of hours but they came onto the feed late on.
Jimmy Brooks fancied his draw and made no mistake fishing pellet shallow at 11m towards the pads. He had 55 carp in his 138lb 12oz winning haul!
Runner-up was in-form and Fish o Mania qualifier Josh Pace from peg 5.
He fished meat short and shallow up to the reeds at 13 metres for 111lb 6oz.
In third place was Rob Anstee on 103lb 4oz.
The Thursday £1,000 qualifier open Jay Lake saw Rob Wright putting an impressive weight of 164lb 8oz to the scales all caught on luncheon meat.
In second spot was John Young on 69lb 4oz, followed by Steve Dorks 67lb 8oz.
John Belshaw took the honours in the Thursday over 60’s match on the Magpie Pool with John Pratt second on 74lb 14oz and Chris Saunders with 73lb 13oz.
