The latest Tuesday evening match at Buttonhole Fishery saw weights a little lower than expected.
The in-form John Buckingham netted 70lb 15oz on pole and pellet to take first place. Runner-up was Lester Pratt with 51lb 2oz followed by Andrew Carter on 50lb 5oz.
Sport recovered well for the popular Friday evening BBQ match, Les Barry put a fine 157lb 3oz to the scales from peg 14 catching on meat over sweetcorn. Runner-up with 117lb 15oz was Andrew Carter followed by Lester Pratt with 109lb 14oz.
Without doubt one of the best lakes on the Decoy complex this year has been the Six Island pool, it has produced the goods each week in all sorts of conditions and in the Fenland Rods match at the weekend once again it fished really well.
Dave Garner was top rod with a fantastic 214lb 3oz net of carp all taken on meat close in fishing a rod and line approach. Son James adopted the same tactics to come in second on 148lb 3oz followed by Kev Lee with 122lb 3oz and Dick Warrener on 104lb 5oz.
This weekend’s fixture will see the club at Buttonhole Fishery.
Last weekend’s Open match was fished on the Kingfisher Pool which saw Ricky James out in front, he caught on a small method feeder and also later on in the margins to put 57lb 13oz on the scales. Harry Morgan came in second on 45lb 5oz, taking his fish on a maggot feeder and margins followed by Ashley Kingsey with 39lb 6oz.
Over the past couple of weeks the weed growth on the Forty Foot Drain has become a real problem for anglers, in fact on some sections it’s been almost impossible to fish such is the coverage of the weed.
Several anglers have turned away from the water but the Chatteris Workingmen’s Angling Club gave it a go on Sunday, but with some poor results. Steve Newell topped the field on the Pump section with 3lb 14oz of small fish followed by Chris Burton on 1lb 15oz and Jack Halverson with 13 oz.
In the Tuesday evening match held at Black Dyke Mark Lynn topped the field with a fine 31lb 2oz net of small fish and tench taken on the pole. Runner-up was Dave Parlett on 8lb 12oz followed by Sammy McSpadden with 4lb 15oz.
Black Dyke was again the venue for the Thursday match, club stalwart Dave Parlett taking the honours with 8lb 9oz of skimmers and perch taken on bronze maggot. March rod Bob Fitzjohn came in second with 7lb 5oz followed by Andy Greenwood with 5lb 14oz.
There was a good turnout for the Sunday match, once again on Black Dyke, Paul Constable taking this one with 10lb 14oz, he took skimmers on the pole along with a decent tench fishing worm. Dave Parlett came in second on 7lb 8oz followed by Andy Greenwood with 5lb 6oz.
Tuesday and Thursday evening match Tydd Gote matches will draw at Black Dyke at 5.30. Sunday’s match will draw at Black Dyke at 11am, fish 12-5pm.
There was a good attendance for the latest £2,400 qualifier on Trev’s Pool, John Millard taking the honours with a level 76lb. John drew peg 37 and fished a small method feeder to the island. Runner-up was Geoff Arnold on 68lb 13oz followed by Dave Rodwell with 60lb 2oz.
