Stock car racers from the Wisbech area will be heading to the Adrian Flux Arena, King’s Lynn, on Saturday, 6pm, in search of qualifying points for two of the sport’s biggest championships.

The earth-shaking BriSCA Formula One Stock Cars contest a world qualifying round, an event which takes on extra significance this year as the World Championship Final itself will be staged at the track later this year. Supporting the big American V8-engined cars is a packed programme of races for the always-entertaining BriSCA Formula Two Stock Cars and Ministox.

A big turn-out of Formula Two Stock Cars is expected, with the meeting being a World of Shale qualifying round – another championship that has its final at the Saddlebow Road shaleway later this year. The country’s leading loose-surface racers are all expected to be in attendance. Wisbech hopes will rest on Anthony Winters who impressed with his performance at the track four weeks ago. March racers Jonathan Upchurch and Josh Harlock will also be on the hunt for points.

The Formula One Stock Car entry includes the likes of Norfolk’s leading driver Mat Newson, former World Champion Lee Fairhurst (Lancashire) and the legendary Frankie Wainman Jr (Yorkshire), with many more top drivers expected to confirm their entries during the week.

Last weekend’s action was relentless in the Two-Litre Saloon Stock Cars on what proved to be a night to remember for Somersham veteran Ivan Street. He stormed to second place in the meeting final, skilfully avoiding the carnage around him and driving a controlled race.

Wisbech’s Simon Sparrow won the 1300cc Stock Car meeting final which was a bruising encounter, with fellow Wisbech drivers John Moat, Kevin McClagish and Ady Wales also coming home in the top six.
