There was no fairy-tale ending to Chris Ringham’s nine-year reign as March CC captain, as another awful batting display condemnd them to a Tucker League 45-run defeat at Nassington on Saturday.
March lost their first four wickets for six runs, as four of the top five batsmen failed to score. March finished with nine wins and nine defeats.
Cambs Over 50 off-spinner Richard Green, a late call-up, picked up 4-32 during the home side’s 162, with Ringham, James Harradine and Steve Seymour grabbing two wickets apiece.
Seymour again top-scored with 53 and was dismissed at 88-7, as the visitors were all out for 117.
Seymour retained the 1st Xl (Saturday) Player of the Year and fellow Aussie Stephen Shaw the 1st Xl (Sunday) award at the end of season Players’ Party/Aussie Night.
The remainder of the awards will be presented at the annual presentation evening on Friday, September 26. Tickets for the two course meal can be obtained from chairman Les Mills.
March Sunday 2nds completed their season with a 46-run friendly win against Wisbech 3rd XI at The Avenue.
The home side slumped to 11/4 until a half century partnership between skipper for the day Stephen Wallis 37 (3 4’s) and Rob Conyard 47 not out (2 4’s) put them back in the game. Sam Mason struck a powerful 28 (4 4’s) to push the score to a reasonable 154 off their 40 overs.
Wisbech were in trouble thanks to opening bowlers Charlie Revell 2-24 and Mason 4-12, and despite determined resistance from skipper Matt Dawson with 58 not out, Wisbech were bowled out in the 33rd over for 108.
