Wisbech Town are in pole position for the Cambs Tucker League title after having the better of their clash with second placed Ramsey on Saturday.
Wisbech collected 16 points compared to their rivals’ 10 and are now 14 points clear. Wisbech posted 210 in 48 overs but Ramsey mainly shut up shop on 138-9. Josh Bowers top-scored with 82 runs, James Williams 29, Simon Freear 25 and Gary Freear 22.
Wisbech skipper Alan Burton said: “Josh batted well on that wicket and Simon and Willo batted well with him. It was one of the better games.
“We opened with two spinners, Craig Johnson and Gary Freear. Craig bowled well and got probably their most dangerous player Michael Cafferkey first ball.
“They were too negative in the middle order and had a few shots at the end. We lost the toss and they put us in.
“A more positive move would have been to bat first. They were worried about the gap between us and them getting too big. The wicket was hard to play on in the second innings, it was slow.”
Johnson was outstanding with 15-8-26-4 and Freear added 2-42.
He added: “We have three hard games coming up. If we do well in them I can’t really see us being caught. If we mess up against Godmanchester and Foxton then the title is still open.”
Wisbech are at home to Godmanchester next Saturday.
