Wisbech Seconds’ Ivan Burgess had much to shout about in an eight-wicket triumph against Yelling 1sts in CCA League Division Two.

Burgess’s figures were 6-2-10-8 as Yelling were skittled for 40. Ryan Harnwell chipped in with 1-20 and Lyndon Waters 1-0. Wisbech eased to 42-2 with Charles Baxter not out 30.

Wisbech Town lost a rain-affected Cambs Tucker Gardner Premier League Division One match at home to Ramsey on Saturday.

Wisbech totalled 208-8 in 48 overs, birthday boy Gary Freear scoring 55 and James Williams 79 not out. Due to the stoppage, Ramsey were set a new rain-reduced target of 117 off 27 overs which they reached within 23 overs with four wickets down.

Wisbech skipper Alan Burton, who then had to drive up to Cheshire that night to play for Cambridgeshire, said: “We lacked a little bit in the first ten overs: they scored about 70 in that time.

“We weren’t quite at the races with the ball and in the field. We just lacked a bit of conviction and control with the ball.”

Craig Johnson bowled very well for nine overs with 1-27, and Gary Freear 1-29.

Wisbech are at Godmanchester next Saturday when opening bowler Jack Hastings replaces Jason Esser.

Wisbech 3rds lost to Milton by seven wickets in CCA Junior League 2 North.

Wisbech were 102 all out (Dan Crossley 24) while Milton made 103-3 (Ryan Van Waterschoot 1-28, John Mallett 1-19, Henry Thornton 1-8).

Wisbech 4ths lost to St Ives 3rds by 97 runs: St Ives 198 (Martin Parrin 5-44); Wisbech 101 (Tom Chapman 29).

In Sunday’s Rutland League Division 1, Wisbech beat Nassington by 108 runs. Wisbech 233-9 (Sam Albutt 51); Nassington 125 (Matthew Parrin 3-18).

Kettering decided to put out a first team squad because of a poor start to the season to build a bit of confidence in Rutland Division 5 and beat Wisbech 2nds by 203 runs.
