Chatteris finally got its season under way on Saturday and it was a good start to the campaign for the first team as they beat Bluntisham by six wickets.
With a few regular players missing skipper Ant Palmer had to take a mixture of senior and youth players, and they all played their part in this CCA Senior Division 2 game.
Palmer won the all important toss, he rightly elected to bowl first on a sodden wicket, and it was 15-year-old Kriss Brown who got the first wicket. After that the home side just kept losing regular wickets, finally being bowled out in the 36th over for just 88 runs. Palmer ended with 4-23 and A Bamford 2-25.
In reply Chatteris lost opener Conor Cunningham (8) with the score on 21, then James Fraser playing his first game for the first team soon followed without troubling the scoreboard, but it was opener John Dawson (53no) who led them home inside 20 overs.
James Fraser made up for it on Sunday in the Fenland Trophy with a superb knock of 61 as Chatteris beat Wisbech thirds.
Chatteris scored 186-8 with Connor Morton also hitting 36.
Wisbech were all out for just 47 with Kris Brown taking four wickets for four runs off 5.1 overs. Sam Holman-Gavin took three for seven.
Chatteris firsts conceded their cup game against Camden seconds on Sunday.
The club have new sponsors for this season with local company Connett Cable agreeing a two-year deal with the club.
Managing director of Connett Cable, Les Connett, said: “I am delighted to be associated with Chatteris and was particularly impressed with the friendly set up. I hope that the club will continue its success of last season.
“I am proud that the club have accepted my offer of sponsorship and, at Connett Cable, we are keen to help the club continue to climb up the league.”
First team captain, Ant Palmer, said: “The club has been looking for a solid, local company to provide sponsorship and is delighted to be wearing the Connett Cable logo on our new kit.”
The youth teams at Chatteris continue to be sponsored by Latta’s and Allpress Farms.
