CHATTERIS Town clinched successive promotions on Saturday even though their game against Girton was abandoned.
They had gone into the CCA Senior Divsion Two game needing 13 points and were in a strong position with Girton bowled out for just 106 and Joe Menarry taking five for 47, Ant Bamford three for 34 and skipper Ant Palmer two for 18.
They cannot be caught for second place now with just one game left against Wisbech seconds this weekend and Palmer said: “It was great to get another promotion but disappointing we could not do it with a win as we looked to be in a very good position. After gaining promotion last season I did not know what to expect this time, but we have just taken it a game at a time and done really well.
“We have got a good blend of older players and youth and have got a really good side. We do not rely on any individuals as we have got 11 players capable of scoring a fifty or taking five wickets.
“It will be trickier next season in Division One, but we will just see how things go.”
On Sunday Chatteris lost their Fenland Trophy game with Witcham by 39 runs.
Witcham scored 141 all out with Jake Kaval taking five for 28.
Chatteris were bowled out for 102 and Cameron Brown top scored with 42.
Leverington were in a good position when their match against champions Godolphin in Cambs Junior 1A on Saturday was abandoned.
They won the toss on a good track and made up for last week’s batting horror show. James Dod 40 and Simon Gilbert 31 put on 78 for the first wicket and then Jacques Steynberg 18 took the score to 100.
Leverington then lost Gilbert and Steynberg quickly but the rain came with eight overs left with 109 on the board with seven wickets in hand.
