Chatteris got back to winning ways in the last over against Fulbourn 1st XI on Saturday.
After the heavy rain the night before the ground was in very good shape. Even so Chatteris won the toss and decided to bowl first.
All four bowlers did very well, bowling to good plans and they restricted Fulbourn, with some excellent fielding and catching, to 169-5 from 45 overs. Bowling figures were: A.Palmer 0-38, A. Wool 2-46, S.Thomas 0-52 and P.Munns 2-23.
Chatteris knew if they batted the full amount of overs that they would win the game but had wickets falling at regular intervals. K.Cunningham was a main stay, before he fell for 38 to leave Chatteris 64-4. B. Hollis (30) and D. Martell (33) then put a crucial partnership together of 51.
Another couple of wickets fell and it left Chatteris needing 35 from five overs with three wickets remaining. The game changed again when in the 43rd over Palmer hit the first two balls for six and four. Another wicket to fall in the over but 14 runs were scored.
In the 44th over only two runs were added meaning that Chatteris needed 7 from the last over. A single was scored from the first two balls, and finished in style when Palmer hit a leg stump full toss over the rope for six.
Skipper Anthony Palmer said: “I thought we bowled and fielded very well. The batting was a lot better with players taking responsibility. The partnership between Dan Martell and Ben Hollis was crucial.”
Next weekend Chatteris have another tough fixture away to top-of-the-table Cambridge Granta.
