WISBECH Town skipper James Williams (pictured) was crowned the fastest bowler in the East during Sky Sports Cricket Am show on Saturday morning.
Williams took part in the heats at Long Sutton earlier this month and his recorded speed of 74 mph proved the best in the Eastern area.
He admitted on television that he could not bowl flat out as he was suffering with a hamstring injury and said this week: “It is good to be the fastest bowler in the East. It is first time I have had had my speed recorded but I think I was even faster when I was younger. There are several other heats to be held around the country and the fastest speed recorded last year was 82 miles per hour and I will be surprised if my speed is the fastest by the time all the heats have finished.”
The competition’s main prize is a net with a couple of current England players.
