Appleby fuming on rivals’ replay

Wisbech Town manager Steve Appleby is fuming that Thurlow Nunn League leaders Dereham Town reportedly played an ineligible player in a game against Diss Town on February 2.

The game is to be replayed on May 4, four days after the Fenmen’s final game against Felixstowe & Walton Utd. No official word has emerged from the league on this matter yet.

Appleby said: “It is an absolute disgrace. You can’t let Dereham play the game again to give them the chance to get the points back.

“If they do they’ll get off scot-free.”

Appleby wants the league “to do the right thing” and said: “If a village team play an ineligible player in a cup game they get thrown out.

“If they do it in the league they get deducted three points.

“It’s a grey area. Lancaster City did the same thing versus Ossett Albion and their league did the right thing: they deducted three points and had no replay.”
