Wisbech Town 4, Norwich United 0
FENMEN boss Steve Appleby was delighted with his side’s performance to make it two wins in four days at the Fenland Stadium on Tuesday night in this Ridgeons Premier Division game.
Norwich arrived on the back of a very good win over Wroxham, but were made to look second best from the start as Wisbech dominated the first half and goalkeeper Rick Lovelace, making his second appearance, had a quiet time.
Callum Reed, who had an indifferent first half to the season, now looks back to near his best as he had a hand in all four goals.
After 20 minutes his cross from the right was diverted into the net by Norwich defender John Lovelock and then 12 minutes later Scott Johnson, operating in a more forward role, popped at the far post to steer the ball home from another Reed cross.
Then with just a minute to go in the first half Reed produced a very good run from almost the halfway line beating tow men before releasing a left foot shot past the Norwich keeper to make it 3-0.
Appleby was able to take off Paul Cousins and Lewis Thompson, who had picked up injuries, at half-time and after 55 minutes Reed saw another cross deflected into the net by Lovelock to make it 4-0.
Appleby said: “That was as good as we have played for a long time and we needed to after Saturday. The players were really up for it, the tempo was good and we won our battles. It was a fantastic first half.”
