WISBECH Town boss Steve Appleby has already swooped for three quality new signings and hopes to unveil another surprise package in the next week.
Appleby, who has returned from a week away from “the job”, would not reveal the name of his target but said: “He is a forward and it will be a great surprise for the fans.
“I have been talking to him recently and, although a couple of other clubs are interested, I am hopeful he will join Wisbech.
“We already have three quality new players coming with Liam Nimmo, Neal Spafford and Simon Ashton and this would be a fourth quality player.”
Wisbech started training last night and will be grinding it out again tomorrow night as they prepare for the first friendly of the season on July 16 at the New Fenland Stadium.
Appleby may also have a couple more new signings before the season starts.
He added: “I have got three or four lads coming along to training this week to have a look at us and we can look at them, so we will see what happens.
“I would like to bring in another midfield player.”
Appleby also revealed he has to talk to Matt Lunn to make sure he is on board again this season.
He explained: “The lad travels from Sleaford but with Spafford also coming from there to share the driving everything should be okay.”
The Wisbech manager has no regrets at his blast at some of the club’s website posters before his break and said: “We have some magnificent supporters, but I think one or two went just too far with their criticism of board members who put a lot of money and hard work into the club.
“I have tried to be honest with the fans since I took the job and let them know what is going on but still some fans want to question what I am doing and I felt I needed to say something.”
