ESTOVER Park Youth FC are the first winners of Cambridgeshire FA’s newly launched Goodwill Awards.

They have won £100 worth of FA and Umbro football equipment which they can choose from a ‘shopping list’ of items that includes balls, cones, bags, bottles and even the FA’s full ‘Future Game’ coaching pack.

S-Tech Girls’ League secretary Chris Abbott commented: “Estover Park girls under 14s made a perfect goodwill gesture to Wisbech St Mary girls recently when the visitors arrived for a 9v9 game with only eight players. They simply agreed to play 8-a-side, which meant maximum enjoyment for both sets of players.”

Estover’s Gary Davies said: “The girls have been playing together since they were 10 and have done really well. It is an honour for the club to have their sporting behaviour recognised with this award.”

The monthly Goodwill Awards are the brainchild of Cambridgeshire FA’s Chief Executive Chris Pringle. He explained: “The idea is to offer everyone a regular incentive to think about their attitude and behaviour towards other participants. We will consider outstanding acts of sportsmanship, friendship, innovation and any activities which promote the growth of football and the retention of people in the game.

“The process is simple: anyone can nominate themselves or anyone else for an award by simply reporting the details of the act of goodwill to the County FA.”
