Norwich United 0,
Wisbech Town 3
Fenmen striker Chris Bacon took his tally to 15 goals for the season with a double in a very good win at Plantation Park on Saturday.
The Fenmen have now won seven of their last eight games and drawn the other game as they now move into sixth place and close on the leaders Dereham Town who have nine points more but have played five more games.
Manager Steve Appleby was delighted with his side’s performance. “We lacked that bit of quality in the first half but did a lot better after the break,” he said.
Norwich had the better of the exchanges in the first half and only some rugged defending by Wisbech stopped them from taking the lead.
Wisbech went ahead after 55 minutes when Callum Reed curled a shot against the crossbar and Matt Lunn picked up the rebound taking one touch before sending the ball back into the net.
Then after 73 minutes Liam Nimmo and Bacon showed just what a good partnership they are forming when Nimmo did well on the right before pulling the ball back for Bacon to tap in from close range.
Two minutes later the game was over with Bacon on hand to stroke the ball home after his initial header and a Nimmo shot had been blocked from Reed’s cross.
As well as the three goals, Appleby was also delighted with the clean sheet in an away game. “It was a good day all round.
“We took our goals well and defended well and you have to be happy with that.
“Chris has been in very good form for us this season.
“He’s a great lad who will run through brick walls for you and he appreciates his team-mates.
“But it is really the whole team effort that has brought us success.”
