March Town 3,
Ipswich Wanderers 1
THE Hares completed the double over the Suffolk visitors at the GER on Saturday and top scorer Ash Brand was back with a goal as a second half substitute.
Brand has been missing for over a month and there is no doubt March have missed his pace up front, and Hares manager Jamie Weston is very happy to have him back. Both sides tried to play football but on a dry and bumpy pitch this was not always easily done and at time things were quite scrappy.
But March started well and took the lead after 16 minutes when Ben Lemmon’s well directed corner found the head of Lee Day to score from six yards out.
March really should have taken a stronger grip on proceedings but Dan Sterna, Simon Bates and Stu Anderson all missed chances before the break.
The Hares began the second half having the better possession and new signing Dan Rasberry combined well with Juliano de Menezes on the right before squaring a perfect ball for Simon Bates to tap the ball home for 2-0.
There were chances for Brand and Sterna but Ipswich reduced the deficit five minutes before the end without ever really looking like getting on terms.
Then with just over a minute left Brand used his pace well and, when left with just the keeper to beat, produced a lob to find the net for 3-1.
Weston commented: “It was a decent performance. It was not pretty but it was job done and a nice three points.
“Dan Rasberry signed for us in midweek and is a former Ely player who has not played much in the last two seasons. He needs games but I think he will be a good signing for us. It was good to see Ash back as he gives so much more up front.”
March: Lee Brooks, Joe Barnes, Ben Lemmon, Jordan Goult, Lee Day, Simon Bates, Scott Welcher, Stu Anderson, Kyle Plumb, Denny Escorcio, Dan Sterna. Subs used: Ash Brand, Juliano De Menezes, Dan Rasberry.
